We're Whitney and Evan — married, parents, and the kind of people who love deep research, debate, and forming an opinion. Translation: we're the friend you text when you don't want to do your own research on humidifiers when you're standing at CVS and your kid has a cold.
We started HYTK as an experiment and as a place to save the thoughts we kept copy-pasting. We were already doing all of this. Researching products at midnight, sending five-paragraph text responses to friends about our vastly different opinions on our current SUV (Evan thinks it's solid; Whitney thinks it beeps too much), talking through career pivots over coffee that got cold two hours ago. HYTK just gives all of that a permanent address.
Have You Tried Kindness is a blog about adulting — parenting is the loudest beat right now, but we also write about careers, products, travel, and whatever else we're actually spending time thinking about. The common thread is that we looked into it, formed an opinion, and figured someone else might want to skip the three hours of research we already did.
The name is the whole vibe. Said with genuine curiosity, it's a soft redirect. Said with a slight edge, it's what your friend says when it's the tough love you need to hear. We live in that overlap — not sarcastic, not preachy, earnest but not naive. At least most of the time. ...Actually I take that back. We're frequently sarcastic. But it comes from a place of love!
For more about the blog name, read Have You Tried Kindness.
Whitney writes most of what you'll read here. Evan is the research brain, the sounding board, and the reason half these posts exist in the first place. We work on everything together even when only one name is on the byline.
If something on this site helps you make a decision faster or feel less alone in the chaos — great. That's the whole point.
